【Introduction】
The "Fundamentals and Frontier Applications of Artificial Intelligence" course forms a key component of Xi’an Jiaotong University’s International Month and the XJTU Summer School program. Conducted entirely in English, the course will be delivered both online and offline in Summer 2026, with the first course scheduled for July 2026. The curriculum comprises eight lectures, each lasting 1.5 hours and presented by leading faculty and expert scholars from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Politecnico di Milano (Italy), and Stevens Institute of Technology (America). Accessible to undergraduate students, this complimentary course promotes a diverse international community dedicated to examining both the theoretical underpinnings and practical, real-world applications of artificial intelligence.

The program is structured as follows, with each lecture focusing on a core AI-related theme:
(1) ICT Technologies and Smart City Digital Transformation
Lecturer: Prof. Hua Qu (XJTU)
Content: Introduction to intelligent city frameworks, combining ICT and AI to drive urban digital transformation and sustainable development.
(2) Intelligent Robots and Brain-Computer Interfaces
Lecturer: Prof. Na Lu (XJTU)
Content: Hybrid augmented intelligence, brain-computer interfaces and robotic environmental interaction fundamentals.
(3) Big Data and Its Applications
Lecturer: Prof. Feng Tian (XJTU)
Content: Introduction to AI in smart education, explainable AI, big data mining, and applications in educational analytics and beyond.
(4) AI-Based System Software Engineering
Lecturer: Prof. Giovanni Quattrocchi (Politecnico di Milano)
Content: Overview of software engineering in the AI era, incorporating the latest methods in testing and quality assurance for intelligent systems.
(5) Research Methods and Technical Paper Writing: Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence Ⅰ&Ⅱ
Lecturer: Prof. Yudong Yao (Stevens Institude of Technology)
Content: Research methodologies, paper writing and literature review tailored for artificial intelligence engineering research.
(6) Biological Big Data Analytics
Lecturer: Prof. Hequan Sun (XJTU)
Content: Computational methodologies and analysis techniques in genomics research, leveraging AI for biological data insights.
(7) Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence
Lecturer: Prof. Yaochen Li (XJTU)
Content: Advances in computer vision, its integration with broader AI frontier developments, and real-world case studies in intelligent transportation and beyond.
