Introduction

The School of Microelectronics is built upon the “Semiconductor Physics and Device” discipline established by Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1958. It is one of the first institutes for semiconductor technology research and talent development in China. In 1997, this discipline was merged with “Electronic Materials and Devices” into a new “Microelectronics and Solid State Electronics” discipline, subsequently became a state key discipline, and supported by the "211 Project" and "985 Project", eligible to issue Master/Doctorate degree and offer Post-doctoral programs. In 2004, it was approved by the Ministry of Education as a "National Base of IC Talents Training" development unit. In 2007, in order to meet the pressing needs of the growth and expansion of China’s IC industry and microelectronics professionals, the Department of Microelectronics was founded. In July 2015, it is approved to prepare to establish “Emblematic School of Microelectronics”, which subsequently become “School of Microelectronics” in December 2015 approved by Xi’an Jiaotong University. Backed by the School of Electronics and Information Engineering, the School of Microelectronics has long been involved in education and research of microelectronics, and has carried out extensive cooperation and exchanges with domestic/international universities, research institutions and enterprises. It has undertaken a large number of national, provincial/ministerial and cross-disciplinary research projects, with significant achievements in education and research. As a result, it has won awards such as the “Science and Technology Progress Award” from Ministry of Electronics Industry, “Science and Technology Progress Award” from National Education Commission, “Science and Technology Progress Award of Shaanxi Province" and many others. In conclusion, the school has made tremendous contributions to the talents development and technological progression of China's microelectronics industry. Many of the School Alumni have become leaders and core forces in China’s IC industry, establishing high reputation both domestically and internationally.
